Lessons on Change - 1/23

Lesson 1: Start with a clear vision.

A vision is a statement of the desired future state that the change aims to achieve. It should be compelling, inspiring, and aligned with the organisation's values and goals. A clear vision helps to communicate the purpose and direction of the change, as well as to motivate and engage stakeholders.

Many organisations we’ve engaged over time, struggle to be able to articulate their vision for their change. It’s often because the change is needed or necessary – but the shouldn’t prevent a vision being crafted and shared as part of the communication.

The number of times, when asked, ‘Why?’ senior stakeholder and project sponsors are asked that the change is happening and there’s been an awkward silence may surprise you.

Setting the vision doesn’t need to be complex and nor does it need to be detailed - so don’t delay and set time now to engage with your stakeholders and set that vision which the project can use.
